LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The Sonoma State women's water polo team endured a tough Saturday at the Triton Invitational on the campus of UC San Diego. Following a 15-2 loss to the nation's sixth-ranked team, UC Irvine, the Seawolves fell to Cal State Bakersfield by a 12-11 score.
Noelle Herrera had a big game for Sonoma State in the loss, netting five goals in total. The losses leave Sonoma State at 3-6 on the season.

Sonoma State was unable to score in the first half, but
Noelle Herrera got the Seawolves on the board in the third quarter with 1:11 remaining in the period. In fact, Herrera scored both of Sonoma States goals in the match, finding one more in the fourth quarter. However, the Anteaters' offense was too powerful for the Seawolves as UC Irvine put up 15 goals, to take the win 15-2.
Cal State Bakersfield 12, Sonoma State 11
While Sonoma's first game on Saturday was a bit of a rout, the second was anything but. Sonoma State led 5-4 after an action-packed first quarter and the score was knotted after the second and third periods at 7-7 and 9-9, respectively.
Tied at 11 with 2:18 remaining in the fourth, CSUB's Shannon McKenzie scored the eventual game-winner. The Roadrunner defense forced turnovers on the Seawolves' final two possessions to secure the win.
Herrera led the way with three goals in the game.
Jessica Stansfield and
Lindsay Rangel each had two.
Ariel Lockshaw recorded 10 saves in the defeat.
Sonoma State returns to the pool at 9:20 on Sunday morning to play Marist on the final day of the 2013 Triton Invitational. A win will send them into the 13th place game, a loss to the 15th place game.
