DAVIS, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's water polo team made their second trip to Davis this season to partake in the Aggie Shootout, playing one game against the Rams of Colorado State. However, the Seawolves weren't able to overcome the Rams offense, as SSU was defeated 11-8. With the loss Sonoma State falls to 6-10 overall.
Colorado State got off to a hot start, netting four goals in the first quarter, two coming from the hand of Ariel Arcidiacono, to take a 4-0 lead in the early going. Unfortunately, Sonoma State was unable to get on the board in the first quarter, but tallied four goals in the second period to get within two goals at the halfway point, at a score of 6-4.
The Rams began the third quarter with two straight goals to take an 8-4 lead, followed by two consecutive SSU goals to bring the deficit back to two, one coming from
Noelle Herrera who scored the second of her eventual hat trick. Colorado State would score two more goals, a total of four goals in the third quarter, to take a 10-6 lead into the final quarter. Sonoma State outscored Colorado State 2-1 in the fourth quarter, but it would not be enough offensive production, as the Rams would go on to win 11-8.
Herrera led the Seawolves with the aforementioned hat trick, followed by freshman
Jessica Becker with two goals.
Adrienne Bisharat,
Natalie Del Carlo, and
Lindsay Rangel each chipped in with one goal each. For the Rams, Arcidiacono had a huge day, recording six goals in the winning effort. Adding to the CSU offense was Shelby Shaeffer who contributed two goals. Jamie Stone, Kelcy Barott, and Brianna Sherrin all helped with one goal in the victory.
Sonoma State will play their fourth conference game next Saturday, March 9, when they take on Santa Clara at Sullivan Aquatic Center. First sprint is set for 1:00 pm.
