2013 NCAA DIvision II West 2 Regional Tournament Central

INDIANAPOLIS -- For the fifth straight year, the Sonoma State softball team has qualified to play in the NCAA Division II Softball Championship Tournament and it will begin its quest for a national title in the West 2 Regional, hosted by Dixie State University in St. George, Utah. 

The Seawolves, who captured the No. 3 seed in the West Region with a 36-19 overall record, will open the tournament on Friday against No. 6 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills (34-21) at 12:00 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time (PDT).  Host Dixie State, the No. 2 seed with a record of 37-12, will face off against No. 7 Hawai'i-Hilo (39-17) in the other first-round game on Friday at 2:30 p.m. PST at Karl Brooks Field on the Dixie State campus.

In the West 1 Regional, top-seed Humboldt State (46-12) will host No. 4 seed Grand Canyon (39-17), No. 5 seed Saint Martin's (39-14) and No. 8 seed UC San Diego (33-22) at HSU Softball Field in Arcata.

The winner of each West Sub-Regional will face off in the NCAA Division II West Super Regional on May 18-19 at a location to be determined later with the winner advancing and representing the West Region at the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament in Salem, Va., on May 23-27.

After finishing the regular season with a 35-17 record and a 22-14 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), Sonoma State earned the No. 3 seed in last weekend's CCAA Championship Tournament in Stockton.  The Seawolves knocked off second-seeded UC San Diego in the opening round last Friday, but suffered two losses on Saturday -- a 4-2 loss to Humboldt State, followed by an 8-6 loss to UC San Diego -- and was eliminated from the conference tournament.

This will be the fifith appearance in the NCAA tournament for SSU, however, the Seawolves have yet to advance beyond sub-regional competition.
