Seawolves Split On Saturday, Finish 3-1 At Coyote Classic

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.  --  Following a heartbreaking five-set loss to Regis that saw Sonoma State climb back from a 2-0 deficit, the Seawolves downed Central Washington in four to secure a Saturday split.  Sonoma finishes the 2013 Coyote Classic with three wins in their four matches.  They will now turn their sights to the Seawolf Spike, an eight-team tournament held next weekend at SSU.

Regis 3, Sonoma State 2  -- Box Score

In Saturday's first game, Regis got out to a 2-0 lead with 25-17 and 25-21 wins.  The third game saw the Seawolves dig deep, pulling out a thrilling 32-30 win.  The fourth was nearly as long, with Sonoma winning 27-25 to push the Rangers to a fifth and decisive game.  Unfortunately, this would one would belong to Regis as they blitzed to an early lead, then held on to take the game 15-5.

As a team, the Seawolves hit just .081.  Kelsey Hull was the team leader in kills with 16, though she had nearly as many hitting errors (14). Regan Richert hit 13-9-42 (.095) and both Madelyn Densberger and Caylie Seitz had 12 kills.  Densberger had 18 digs as well.

Sonoma State 3, Central Washington 1  --  Box Score

In the nightcap, Central Washington took the first game, 25-23, before Sonoma stormed back to sweep the next three by scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-17. 

Seitz had a huge game, driving home 17 kills and hitting .419 for the match.  Ashley Robinson had ten kills and five blocks while Nicole Gragnola posted 27 digs.  Hayley Ross and Devin Shaver split setting duties right down the middle, combining for 45 assists.

The Seawolves host the Seawolf Spike next Friday and Saturday.  Regarded as one of the top NCAA Division II tournaments in the region, in addition to Sonoma, the event includes San Francisco State, Dominican, Chico State, Montana State Billings, Cal State Stanislaus, Western Washington, and Hawaii Pacific.
