ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Sterling Arterberry scored 20 points and the Seawolves connected on a season-high 56% of their shots, but it would not be enough on Saturday night as the Seawolves dropped an 81-71 decision to Cal State San Bernardino at The Wolves' Den. The loss gives the Seawolves a weekend split and leaves them at 2-12, 1-9 CCAA. Cal State San Bernardino remains perfect in conference play at 10-0 and improves to 13-1 overall.
The Seawolves got out of the gates strong on Saturday, scoring the game's first six points and holding the Coyotes without a field goal for nearly four minutes. CSUSB would be quick to answer, though, as they proceeded to reel off seven in a row to take a 7-6 lead. The lead would volley back and forth for much of the first half with Sonoma taking its final lead on a
Mike Harris jumper with 5:28 to go. At the end of the first half, CSUSB clung to a 36-33 lead.
Eventually, Cal State San Bernardino began to pull away in the second half, getting the lead to as many as 15 inside the final five minutes. This despite Sonoma State shooting a blistering 60.9% from the field for the half.
Arterberry's 20 points came on 5-of-7 shooting (2-of-3 from three-point land). He also drained 8-of-9 free throws to lift his season percentage to 83.3%, second best in the conference.
Justin Herold contributed with 16 points and four rebounds, and
David Ahern was a perfect 5-for-5 off the bench for ten points.
The Seawolves ended up shooting 27-for-48 from the field and 4-for-13 from three-point territory.
The Coyotes had five players in double digits, led by 13 from Lacy Haddock and Jordan Burris. CSUSB shot 29-for-60 (48.3%) overall and 8-for-23 (34.8%) on three-pointers. They outrebounded Sonoma State 29-22 and had a sizeable advantage on the offensive boards, 12-5.
