Seawolves Suffer 75-63 Home Loss To Lumberjacks Saturday

BOX SCORE Humboldt State 75, Sonoma State 63 -- Box Score

ROHNERT PARK --
A mix of cold shooting and turnovers spelled disaster for the Sonoma State men's basketball team on Saturday night in a 75-63 loss to visiting Humboldt State at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves drop to 5-17 overall and 4-14 in the CCAA while the Lumberjacks rise to 10-14 (5-13 CCAA).

Sonoma shot just 36.6 percent from the floor on 15 of 41 shooting.  In fact, nine of the 15 made shots by SSU in the game were successful from beyond the three-point arc.  The most telling statistic was the 21 turnovers committed by the hosts, paving the way for 23 points for its opponents.  Jason Walter came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points, followed by 11 from Justin Herold, but 17 of their combined 27 points came by way of the free throw line; Walter was 8 of 11 and Herold was 9 of 10 from said stripe.

Humboldt State had the hot hand Saturday, hitting 50.8 percent of its shots (30-59), most of which came from down low -- the Lumberjacks outscored the Seawolves 44-8 in the paint.  HSU also maintained possession of the ball when they had it, committing just nine turnovers.    David Howard led all players with 17 points while three others chipped in with double-digit efforts -- Allan Guei (16 points), Parker Ferris (12) and Brandon Pomrehn (12).

Sonoma State will hit the road for its final two road games of the 2013-14 campaign next Friday and Saturday.  The Seawolves head south to Cal State San Bernardino (Friday) and UC San Diego (Saturday), both tipping off at 7:30 pm.
