Always a hotly contested series, the rivalry between Sonoma State and Chico State goes back decades.  Last year belonged to the Seawolves as they enjoyed their first four-game sweep of the Wildcats since 1993.  Sonoma State captured the Capital City Clash on April 28th with a 5-0 win that was highlighted by a stellar pitching performance by George Asmus.

Since 2005, both teams have seen success in the series.  In 43 games, the Seawolves have won 24, the Wildcats 19.  Regular foes in the postseason as well, the teams have met 20 times in either the CCAA or NCAA Tournament.  In addition, Sonoma (5) and Chico (3) are responsible for eight of the 15 conference championships since 1999.

Raley Field opened on the banks of the Sacramento River in 2000.  With 11,093 permanent seats and grass seating for a total capactiy of 14,014, it is among the largest minor league stadiums in the nation.  Last season, Raley Field hosted an average of 8,455 fans for each of the River Cats home games.  It was the fifth-highest total in all of minor league baseball.
