SACRAMENTO, Calif. --
In recent years, the Capital City Clash has proved to be unpredictable, and Sunday was no different.  With a CCAA regular season title on the line for both Sonoma State and Chico State, it was the Seawolves (27-14, 24-8 CCAA) to rally from a four-run deficit late in the game to stun the sixth-ranked Wildcats (37-11, 29-10 CCAA), 10-7, on Sunday at Raley Field in Sacramento to capture the banner and the No. 1 seed in next week's CCAA Baseball Championship Tournament.

Coming into Sunday's contest with just eight home runs all season, Sonoma State blasted two home runs off of a Chico State pitching staff that had allowed just six in 47 games.  The second Seawolf bomb came off the bat of Alex Crosby, a three-run go-ahead home run into the Wildcat bullpen in left field to cap a five-run seventh inning that put SSU up 10-7.  From that point on, Cody Lane (2-1), who entered the game in the top of the sixth as the Seawolves' fourth pitcher of the day, shut down the explosive Wildcat lineup in his three and a thirds innings of work, allowing just one walk and a hit by pitch to secure the thrilling comeback victory for Sonoma.

Chico State got off to a quick start, plating two runs in the first and two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead.  Sonoma State got three runs back in the bottom of the third inning on a three-run home run by Jourdan Weiks to make the score 4-3.  The Wildcats took back their four-run advantage with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to lead 7-3.

That's when the tables turned.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Crosby lifted a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded, then Steven Moen grounded out to the pitcher, but it allowed Jackson Stogner to score to cut the Chico State lead in half at 7-5.

In the bottom of the seventh, Stogner singled home Wesley Wallace and Eric Ehlow singled home Weiks to knot the game before Crosby turned on a 1-2 pitch and gave Sonoma State the 10-7 lead, and eventual victory.

Weiks, Ehlow, Crosby and Cory Hearne each had two hits each for the Seawolves; Crosby led the way with four RBI while Weiks had the three on his home run, which was his first of the year.

Luke Barker (4-2) took the loss; he gave up the five runs on five hits in the seventh inning.  Ryne Clark, Peter Miller and Connor Huesers had two hits each for Chico State.

Sonoma State will enter the 2014 CCAA Baseball Championship Tournament next week at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton as the No. 1 seed and will face fourth-seeded Cal Poly Pomona at 3:00 pm on Thursday.
