LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The Sonoma State women's water polo team completed its weekend at UC San Diego by suffering two defeats at the hands of 19th-ranked Marist and Cal State East Bay on Sunday. The Seawolves lost 10-2 to the Redfoxes and later lost a close match against WWPA-rival Cal State East Bay, 8-6.
With the losses, the Seawolves finished in 16th place in the Triton Invitational and saw their overall record drop to 1-9 against a schedule consisting mostly of NCAA Division 1 teams ranked in the CWPA Top 20.
Sonoma State next hits the pool Feb. 15 with contests against California Lutheran and Santa Clara in Santa Clara. The first match against Cal Lutheran is scheduled for 1:00 pm while the second match against Santa Clara is set for 5:30 pm.

Carleigh Robinson put one in the net with 27 seconds left in the third quarter to give the Seawolves their first goal of the day. Robinson followed up her first goal with a second one in the fourth quarter to make the score 9-2. Marist would add one more goal to make the final tally 10-2. The two goals by Robinson added to an already great weekend of scoring by giving her five goals in three games.
Andrea Mallul had three saves for the Seawolves. Marist had seven players score goals, led by Amanda Amorosa's three goals.
Cal State East Bay 8, Sonoma State 6 -- Box ScoreSonoma State got on the board first when
Nicole Browning scored the first of her three goals to make it 1-0 Seawolves with 6:55 left in the first quarter. The Pioneers would score the next four goals before Browning got goal number two to make the score 4-2 with 6:15 left in the third.
Three times the Seawolves came within one goal of the Pioneers in the fourth quarter when
Shannon Baer caged one to make it 5-4,
Alexa May scored to make 6-5 and
Noelle Herrera put one in the net to make it 7-6, but CSUEB countered with another goal of its own on its next possession and the Pioneers would then hold on for the win.
Mallul had seven saves for the Seawolves. The Pioneers were led in scoring by Sabrina Hatzer, who had two goals.
