LA JOLLA, Calif. -- After a 14-5 loss to No. 25 CSU Northridge to open the day Sunday, the Sonoma State women's water polo team bounced back for a 5-3 victory over NCAA Division I Santa Clara to finish 15th at the Triton Invitational this weekend in La Jolla.
The Seawolves (2-7) will return home to host two games in three days, beginning with a matchup against WWPA-foe Cal State East Bay on Friday at 2:00 pm. Sonoma will then welcome Fresno Pacific to town on Sunday for a 12:00 pm first sprint.

Kaysie Lewis put SSU on the scoreboard with a score at the 1:46 mark of the first quarter. The Matadors responded with five more goals to take a 9-1 lead en route to the 14-5 win.
Noelle Herrera scored twice, both within a two minute span at the start of the fourth quarter.
Carleigh Robinson and
Taylor Brown also threw in goals for the Seawolves.

Nicole Groat and
Lily Carlon gave the Seawolves a 2-1 lead with goals on back-to-back possessions midway through the second period. The Broncos knotted the game up at 2-2 just before halftime.
At 5:19 in the third, Sonoma recaptured the lead when
Lyndsie Williams converted a penalty shot, then four minutes later, Groat scored again to give SSU a two-goal cushion with a score at 1:43.
Santa Clara pulled to within one goal with 6:33 to play in regulation, but an insurance goal by Robinson at 5:33 secured the Seawolves' upset 5-3 win over the Division I Broncos.
