BOX SCORE 3 San Bernadino, Calif. - After the suspension of Friday's doubleheader due to darkness, the Sonoma State Seawolves finished off their weekend series with the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes with two victories in their three games, winning the weekend series in the process.
Game 1 - Sonoma State 4, CSU San Bernardino 3 (12)In a game that resumed after nine innings on Friday evening, the Seawolves got a run-scoring double in the 12th to prevail over the Coyotes.
Alee Balanon led off the inning with a leadoff single and was sacrificed to second by
Leanna Georges.
Carlie Daniel then doubled into the gap in right-center to give Sonoma State the lead for good. Daniel had a home run on Friday evening as well, giving her a 2-for-6 game overall. Both Balanon and
Sarah Langley had two hits, as well.
After throwing the final three innings on Friday before the game was suspended,
Amanda Llerena pitched three more scoreless innings on Saturday to pick up her 11th win of the season. She allowed only three hits in her six total innings and struck out four.
Game 2 - CSU San Bernardino 7, Sonoma State 0Originally scheduled as the opener for a Saturday doubleheader, the third game in the four game series saw the Coyotes score first and put the game away late with big innings in the fourth and sixth on their way to a rout of the Seawolves.
Five players had multi-hit days for the Coyotes, as they got to
Amanda Llerena in the first before scoring three runs each in the fourth and sixth innings. Amanda Herrera went 3-for-3 to lead the Coyote offense.
Jena Kaser and
Alison Strycula each had a hit apiece for the Seawolves, as Amanda Ramirez shut down the Seawolf offense to give San Bernardino their first win of the series.
Game 3 - Sonoma State 9, CSU San Bernardino 3The series finale featured a three-run first inning for the Seawolves in a game where they never trailed, as they scored in each of the final four innings to run away from the Coyotes and take the weekend road series.
The two-out rally began with
Carlie Daniel's second home run of the series, an opposite field shot to open the scoring. After
Jena Kaser walked,
Jordann White reached on an infield single, with both players moving up another base on an error.
Sarah Langley then singled up the middle to plate two runs and give pitcher
Brielle Vidmar an early cushion.
The Coyotes scored a run in the third, but Sonoma State followed with a run in each of the next three innings. After a walk by
Sarah Langley,
Alee Balanon pinch ran and advanced to second on a passed ball. Malory Masaljo then singled up the middle to bring home Balanon and make it a 4-1 game.
In the fifth, three consecutive singles from Daniel, Kaser and White plated a run, with White's base hit bringing home Daniel to make it 5-1. The sixth saw
Aubrie Tolliver manufacture a run with a good eye, good baserunning and Coyote errors. After a walk, she stole second and came all the way around to score after two errors on the play gave Sonoma State a 6-1 lead.
The Seawolves finished off the scoring with three in the seventh, as Kaser singled home a run, White had a sacrifice fly, and
Ally Bryant scored a run thanks to another Coyote error. San Bernardino had seven errors in the game in all, leading to five unearned runs.
Vidmar went the distance for the Seawolves, allowing three runs on eight hits as she improved to 5-0 in her freshman season.
Daniel, Kaser, White and Masajlo each had two hits to lead the Seawolf offense, with White and Langley each driving in two runs.
Up Next: The Seawolves will travel to Turlock for a game with Western Washington on Thursday, March 31 as a warmup before that weekend's Tournament of Champions. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
