FRESNO, Calif. -- Carleigh Robinson and
Kaysie Lewis each scored twice and
Taylor Plorin made seven saves, including one on a 5-meter attempt in the first quarter as the Sonoma State women's water polo team wrapped up the regular season with a 6-4 victory over host Fresno Pacific on Saturday evening in Fresno.
The Seawolves will enter the WWPA Championships in two weeks with a 12-13 overall record. The Sunbirds dropped to 9-14 on the year.
Fresno Pacific broke the scoreless tie with a power play goal at 4:08 of the opening period, but
Sydney Tatum evened things up at 1-1 at 1:22 of the first quarter, then Lewis converted on a power play opportunity at the 4:48 mark of the second period to put the Seawolves on top 2-1.
It stayed that way until the Sunbirds scored the equalizer to begin the second half. A minute later, Sonoma's Robinson fired one into the net for the 3-2 advantage and a lead SSU would not relinquish the rest of the way. Robinson scored again on the Seawolves' next possession to make it 4-2 in favor of the visitors, then both teams traded goals the rest of the way before Lewis put an exclamation point on the game with a power play goal with 1:03 remaining in the contest..
Nicole Groat also scored for Sonoma State in the game.
The Seawolves will now look towards the
2016 WWPA Championships at Chabot College in Hayward on Apr. 29-May 1.
