Game Two Box ScoreROHNERT PARK -- In their final home performance of the season at Dr. G. Edward Rudloff Pool, the Sonoma State University women's water polo team took on the nationally ranked UC San Diego Tritons and celebrated Senior Day against the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters.

Kaysie Lewis and
Noelle Herrera were honored for their contributions to the program in front of a raucous crowd. That crowd ended up seeing the team's most exciting game of the season, as the Seawolves and Otters needed more than both regulation and overtime to decide their matchup.
In the end, a sudden death goal from Adrianna Craft in the game's seventh period proved to the difference, as Monterey Bay upset Sonoma State in a melancholy end to the Senior Day game.
The tightly contested match was no less than three goals apart the entire way, with the Seawolves leading for almost the entirety of regulation. Up 9-6 going into the fourth period, the Otters were able to ratchet up the defense and scored four consecutive goals to take a 10-9 lead.
It was then that Lewis brought her team back, as the attacker scored twice in the span of 62 seconds to give Sonoma State an 11-10 lead with 56 seconds to go. However, Tatiana Veloso's brilliant second half performance continued for the Otters, as she scored a long-distance goal to tie the game at 11-11 and send it to overtime. Veloso had seven goals in all, with six of them coming after halftime.
Veloso scored two more times in the first overtime period to make it 13-11, but the Seawolves would not be denied in their final 2016 home game, as
Carleigh Robinson scored to make it 13-12 and Herrera tied the game with 2:19 to go in the second overtime to set the stage for the dramatic conclusion.
In the end, the seniors combined for seven goals, with Lewis putting home four and Herrera scoring three times. Herrera also added an assist. Robinson led the way for Sonoma State with five goals and two assists.
Lyndsie Williams added three assists and
Ellen Peterson scored a goal to go along with two assists of her own.
Lewis now has 41 points on the season, including 31 goals. Herrera's goals give her 147 in her storied career. She's moving up in the Seawolf record books, as she is the fourth-leading goal scorer in school history.
Game 1 - #10 UC San Diego 10, Sonoma State 4In the day's opening matchup, the dominant Tritons earned their 20th win of the season with a wire-to-wire victory over the Seawolves.
After the two teams traded early goals, Sonoma State kept an upset within reach as
Carleigh Robinson scored twice and
Nicole Groat scored once, making it a 6-3 game at halftime.
The Tritons then clamped down on defense, allowing only a goal in the final minute by Robinson as they moved to 2-0 in conference play and handed Sonoma State their first conference loss of the season.
Robinson had three goals to lead the way for Sonoma State, giving her eight between the two games. She now has a team-best 40 goals on the season.
