2017 Triton Invitational Tournament Central

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Lyndsie Williams scored a team-high five goals in two games Saturday, accounting for more than half of her team's offense as the Sonoma State women's water polo team suffered a pair of losses to a pair of NCAA Division I opponents ranked in this week's Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Top 25 Poll at the annual Triton Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego -- an 18-3 loss to No. 5 Arizona State in the morning, before a 14-5 defeat at the hands of No. 14 Long Beach State.

The Seawolves fall to 2-7 on the year and will take on WWPA-rival Cal State East Bay at 9:20 am Sunday morning in the second-to-last game of the Triton Invitational in La Jolla.

#5 Arizona State 18, Sonoma State 3 -- Box Score

In the first game of the day, the Division I Sun Devils jumped ahead quickly and would not back down, taking a 6-2 lead through the first quarter before stretching it to an 11-3 lead at the half.  The third Seawolf goal of the contest, which was thrown in by Nicole Groat with a minute left in the second quarter, would be the final score for SSU the rest of the way as Arizona State ended the game scoring seven unanswered goals for the 18-3 win.

Williams scored the first two Sonoma goals in the first quarter accounting for the rest of the offense against ASU.

#14 Long Beach State 14, Sonoma State 5 -- Box Score

The Seawolves played the 49ers close in the first half, and a Williams goal on Sonoma's first possession of the third quarter put the Rohnert Park squad down by just one goal at 4-3.  However, LBSU would score the next three goals en route to outscoring SSU 10-3 in the second half to cruise to the 14-5 win.

Williams led the way for Sonoma State with three goals.  Carleigh Robinson and Cassidy Mundt accounted for the other two.
