ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Sonoma State Water Polo played close with Division I Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon's Senior Day, but the Seawolves fell by a mere point to the Broncos in the 10-9 final at Dr. G. Edward Rudloff Pool.

Santa Clara got off to a hot start, scoring four straight goals through the first 9:35 of play before the Seawolves began to fire back.
Taylor Brown scored a pair of goals—the first coming on a powerplay—cutting the Broncos lead to two.
Amanda Weddle and
Lily Carlon then teamed up for a goal, before
Cassidy Mundt tied up the game at four to start the third period.
The Broncos jumped back in front 5-4 before Mundt scored her second of the game nearly a minute later, before putting the Seawolves ahead 6-5 with 4:12 left in the period. However, the visiting team outscored the Seawolves through the end of the period, tying up the game at eight, prior to the final eight minutes of play.
The Seawolves suffered a pair of goals in the latter half of the fourth period and sought a comeback through the final minutes of play. With 1:59 left on the clock, Carlon fed JoJo Williams on a powerplay, allowing the junior to put her team within one. The Seawolves aimed for a buzzer-beater with 1.4 seconds remaining in the game to force overtime and made their shot from long range, however, the goal was disallowed as it was unable to beat the clock.
With the loss, the Seawolves fall to 6-17 and remain 2-4 in the WWPA heading into their final regular-season game at Fresno Pacific on April 21. Ball drop is expected at 1:00 pm.
