Sonoma State Falls To East Bay

HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Sonoma State Water Polo team fell to WWPA conference rival Cal State East Bay Saturday afternoon by a final of 13-6. With the loss Sonoma State falls to 6-16 on the season and 2-4 in WWPA play.

Despite scoring the opening goal, the Seawolves had a hard time stopping the Pioneers as they went on a 7-0 run from the first to second period. Sonoma State managed to stop the run with 1:29 left in the first half when Junior Taylor Brown scored her first of her three goals of the day, narrowing East Bay's lead to five.

Cal State East Bay scored first in the second half bringing the score 8-2, however over the course of the third period the Seawolves and Pioneers would trade goals. The Seawolves would manage to score three goals in the period, while the home team scored three bringing the score after three periods 11-5 in favor of the Pioneers.

In the fourth period, Sonoma State attempted to work their way out of the deficit but could not keep up with the Pioneers. Cal State East Bay outscored Sonoma 2-1 in the period and won the match.

The Seawolves return to action on April 15 taking on Santa Clara in their Senior Day game. Ball drops at noon.
