Sonoma States softball program lives to fight another day in the 2019 season, earning an at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Softball Championships.
The Seawolves earned themselves an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament after claiming the CCAA tournament outright going 4-0 on the weekend and beating Cal State San Bernardino 7-2 in the championship game to secure its spot in the Regional Tournament.

The regional berth marks the ninth time the Seawolves have made it to the NCAA Regionals in the past ten seasons.

The CCAA has four teams representing the conference. No. 6 seed Sonoma State will be joined by No. 2 seed UC San Diego, No. 3 seed Chico State, and No. 4 seed San Francisco State (playing at Concordia Irvine; regional site one) as selections in the tournament field, announced on NCAA.com Monday morning.

Sonoma State, UC San Diego, and Chico State were slotted into the West 2 Regional bracket, which will be played at No. 2 seed UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif., beginning on Thursday. The Seawolves will be paired with No. 3 seed Chico State.

It is the fifth meeting of the season between the Seawolves and the Wildcats. The teams previously played a CCAA Conference four-game series February 22nd and 23rd in Rohnert Park, Calif., where Sonoma State won one of the four games (6-5).

Sonoma State will make its twelfth NCAA Championships appearance in program history; the Seawolves previous appearances was in 2017.

The Seawolves have gone 35-18 overall this season,
Brielle Vidmar leads the pitching staff with a 2.77 earned run average and a 19-8 record. As a team, Sonoma State owns a .249 opponent batting average.Â

First Team All-CCAA selection
Alee Balanon leads the team with a .395 batting average. In 162 at-bats, Balanon leads the conference in triples (6) and is ranked second in hits (64).Â

Regional play will take place at 16 sites throughout the country from May 9-11. Following that, the remaining teams will compete in the super regionals from May 16-17. The tournament culminates with the finals, which will be held from May 23-27 in Denver at the Regency Athletic Complex.

Sonoma State and Chico State will play their opening round game of the double-elimination regional tournament May 9 at 3:30 p.m. PDT at Triton Softball Field in La Jolla.
