Lawrence Hired to Lead Cross Country and Track and Field

Rohnert Park - David Lawrence Jr. has been named the fourth Head Coach for the Sonoma States Women's cross country and track and field program. 

David Lawrence Jr. spent the past six years at the helm of the men's and women's track and field and cross country programs at the United States Merchant Marine Academy. In addition to leading the program as a whole, Lawrence Jr. work specifically with athletes in sprints, hurdles, and jumps. Most recently Lawrence Jr. was named 2018 Men's and Women's Skyline Conference Coach of the Year. Prior to arriving at the academy, Lawrence Jr. served fourteen years as the Region 14 Coordinator for United States Track and Field (USATF). He serves as meet management for Junior Olympic Track and Field and Cross Country National Championships. 

"I would like to thank the search committee, Mr. Chasey, Ms. Barksdale for bringing me back home to Northern California to lead Sonoma State University Women's Cross Country and Track and Field program", said Lawrence "I will continue to build a championship culture in the classroom, on the track, and the cross country course. I look forward to the challenge and I can't wait to get going."

Lawrence Jr. Is a 1995 graduate of Sacramento State University and holds a Master's degree in sports management from University of California in Pennsylvania in 2016.
