STOCKTON, Calif. – The Sonoma State women's golf team returned to competition for first time since October, finishing 11
th in the Visit Stockton Invitational. The tournament, held at Brookside Country Club featured 19 teams and over 100 golfers, including six CCAA schools.
The Seawolves came out firing in Monday's opening round, shooting a 304 as a team and tying for 3
rd thru 18 holes. SSU trailed only eventual tournament winner Texas A&M International and CSU San Marcos while finishing in a dead head with Cal State East Bay and West Texas A&M.
Lexi Nielsen led the way on day 1 with a two-over-par 74, finishing with two birdies on the round.
Samantha Cabunag and
Brenna Ozel placed right behind Nielsen, each shooting 75.
Lauren Garcia rounded out the team score with an 80.
The second round provided some challenges for the Seawolves as they fell back to 10
th with a team score of 329.
Amelia Gladys led the team in the second round with an 80 while Garcia shot an 82. Nielsen followed her 74 with an 83 and Cabunag and Ozel both finished with an 84.
Overall Nielsen led the team with a combined score of 157 to finish in a tie for 26
th. Ozel and Cabunag also broke the top-50, tying for 40
th with a final score of 159 each.
The Seawolves are off for a couple weeks before playing in the Cal State East Bay Invitational at Corica Park on February 28
th.
