ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Monday, August 22nd, the 2022 volleyball preseason poll was released with Sonoma State earning 95 points and a 6th place finish in the poll. Head coach
Bear Grassl returns for his 21st year at SSU as he enters the 2022 season and after a 5th place finish and back-to-back CCAA Tournament appearances last season, his squad is poised for another deep postseason run.
With only three graduating seniors, the Seawolves return a solid core group of players including all-conference recipients
Kiana Richardson and
Jen Trephan. Junior
Riley Beyma and sophomore
Brynna Slayton also return as they look to anchor the Seawolves defensively, while veterans
Kiana Richardson and
Jessie Hobbs come in as two of the top outside hitters on the team. The pair combined for 449 kills in 2021 with Richardson leading the team in that category and earning herself second team all-conference. SSU welcomes 5 newcomers this season as the program looks to make their third straight conference tournament appearance and has their sights set on their first NCAA tournament appearance since the 2017 season.
The Seawolves hit the road this weekend to kickoff their 2022 campaign as they compete in the WWU Volleyball Invitational. Up in Bellingham, Washington, SSU will open up play against Simon Fraser at 2:30 PM and then host Western Washington on Thursday night at 7:30 PM.
