FREMONT, CALIF. - On Saturday, October 21st, the Sonoma State cross country team competed in the CCAA Championships at Quarry Lakes, hosted by Cal State East Bay. The Seawolves would put on an impressive team showing highlighted by another race victory from sophomore phenom
Gianna Bomarito. Bomarito would shatter the conference record in the 6k and win the race with a time of 20:28.3. Her first place finish and third win of the season would lead the Seawolves to a 7th place finish, their best team performance at the conference championships since 2004.
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMERS
Despite Bomarito's dominant performance, five other SSU runners recorded season bests to highlight the event. First year runner
Liliana Salado was the team's next best finisher with a time of 23:03.5, good for a personal best. Veterans
Sophie Rodriguez and
Abby Ribet both recorded times under 24 minutes to also finish with season bests and round out the top-50 for the Seawolves.
Junior
Maddy Petersen and freshman
Loralye Clements were the other two Seawolf runners with personal bests. Petersen finished with a time of 24:07.7 and Clements with a time of 25:02.0. Fellow freshman
Abby Carroll competed in her first 6k event of the season and recorded a time of 26:33.8 to conclude things for Sonoma State.
Conference champion, conference runner of the year, first conference champion in program history, program record and finally, a CCAA record time in the 6k all belong to Sonoma State's
Gianna Bomarito as she headlined yet another event in her brief SSU career. The NCAA West Regional will take place next month but Bomarito will have her sights set on making the first Nationals appearance since program great Kathy Lenno did so in 2001. Congratulations to all members of the Sonoma State cross country team on a historic CCAA Championship performance. Full race results can be found
