WAIMEA, HI - The Sonoma State women's golf team finished up their fall schedule with another excellent performance, placing 2nd at the Dennis Rose Invitational. The Seawolves placed in the top-3 in all four tournaments this fall, including in the 18-team field at this tournament.. .
SSU opened play on Friday with an opening round 291 to finish the first 18 holes in 2nd place. Cal State San Marcos held an 11-stroke lead after the first with the Seawolves holding off several others who broke 300.
Talia Gutman fired an opening round 2-under par to lead Sonoma State with
Lauren Garcia shooting even-par-72.
Avery Foster was one stroke behind with a 1-over-par 73.
The Seawolves followed up with a 293 in Saturday's final round, holding off Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State LA by one stroke to finish in sole possession of 2nd. Foster led the way in the final round with an even-par-72. Gutman added a 73 with
Courtney Cervellin and Garcia both shooting 74s.
Gutman, the reigning CCAA Freshman of the Year had her best tournament of the fall, placing 4th overall at 1-under-par. Foster just missed her third top-10 finish, placing 11th at 1-over-par and Garcia checked in at 14th overall.
The Seawolves led the field on par 3s with a combined score of 2-under-par. Cal State San Marcos took the title with a score of 11-under-par while Madison Murr won the individual score at 11-under-par.
