MONMOUTH, OREG. - On Friday, September 8th, the Sonoma State cross country team headed north to Monmouth, Oregon to compete in the Ash Creek Festival hosted by Western Oregon. In her first event of the season, sophomore
Gianna Bomarito would make headlines once again with a record breaking performance in the 5k and win her second race of her SSU career. Bomarito would record a time of 17:12.2 to take the top spot in a field of 60 runners and break Sonoma State's program record in the 5k by 18 seconds. The record was previously held by Kathy Lenno and stood for over 20 years. Click HERE to view the full cross country program records.
Bomarito's first place finish would help the Seawolves to a fourth place team finish, recording 88 points in the event. The Seawolves next best finisher was freshman
Loralye Clements who recorded a time of 19:14.8 good for a top-20 finish. Returners
Sophie Rodriguez and
Abby Ribet would round out the top-30 for SSU, recording times of 20:11.3 for Rodriguez and 20:22.0 for Ribet.
Liliana Salado,
Abby Carroll and
Maddy Petersen would also race for the Seawolves as head coach
