Hays and Zoia-Buescher Repeat on NFCA All-West Region First Team

ROHNERT PARK, CALIF. - On Thursday, May 9th, the annual National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) all-region teams were announced with Sonoma State earning a pair of First Team selections in Giana Hays and Anna Zoia-Buescher. Hays and Buescher made their second consecutive appearance on the first team dating back to the 2023 season and this would go down as their third selections of their SSU careers.

2B Giana Hays | NFCA All-West Region First Team

In her four year Seawolf career, second baseman Giana Hays has now earned three NFCA All-West Region selections including back-to-back first team selections in 2023 and 2024. Hays went on to mirror her 2023 career campaign with a .364 average and 52 hits, just 10 points and 3 hits fewer than her 2023 marks. She ranked inside the top-10 in the CCAA in average (.364), runs (36), home runs (8), RBI's (39) and slugging percentage (.657).

Hays was also named to the All-CCAA First Team last week prior to the conference tournament for the second time in her career. She concludes her SSU career with a batting average of .363, 186 hits and 21 homers.

CF Anna Zoia-Buescher | NFCA All-West Region First Team

After one of the greatest offensive performances in program history in 2023, center fielder Anna Zoia-Buescher followed it up with another stellar season hitting .348 from the plate and leading the league with 30 stolen bases to earn her second consecutive NFCA All-West Region First Team selection. Zoia-Buescher tallied 56 hits, 9 doubles and 34 runs scored to represent one of the most dangerous leadoff hitters in the conference.

Zoia-Buescher played and started in all 48 games for the Seawolves and concludes her career with a staggering .404 batting average, 199 hits, 25 doubles and 112 runs scored. She also joined Hays on the All-CCAA First Team this season.

Both Giana Hays and Anna Zoia-Buescher will now be eligible for All-American status; those teams will be announced on Wednesday, May 22nd. Zoia-Buescher was named an NFCA and D2CCA Second Team All-American in 2023. Both players will look to be named All-Americans in the same season for the first time since 2015 when Ancia Purdy and Keeley Ray earned All-American status after winning the program's first west regional.
