Jacob Garsez Named Sonoma State Baseball Head Coach

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Following the conclusion of a national search, the Sonoma State University athletic department has named Jacob Garsez as the head coach of the baseball program, as announced by Senior Director of Athletics Dr. Nicole Annaloro on Thursday.

"We are very excited to have Jacob join SSU Athletics and lead the baseball program." Annaloro said.  "He represents the values of Sonoma State Athletics and brings a commitment to student success and community engagement.  I would like to thank Kurt Patberg, with Mammoth Consulting, for leading the national search."

Garsez joins Sonoma State after four years as the head coach at Oregon Tech.  Garsez compiled an overall record of 120-87 including three straight 30+ win seasons.  Prior to Garsez taking over at OIT in 2021, the Owls had 11 straight losing seasons.  In his first year, Garsez led OIT to a 23-25 record and berth in the CCC Tournament before recording 30 wins in 2022.  In 2023, Garsez earned CCC Coach of the Year honors after leading the team to a CCC regular season title.  Last season, the Owls set a school record with 34 wins and made their fourth straight appearance in the CCC Tournament.

"Sonoma State baseball has a rich history and I am more than thankful for the trust Athletic Director Dr. Nicole Annaloro and the search committee have put in me to be the next head coach." Garsez said. "I am coming from a program and athletic department that I care about and look forward to the opportunity to build new, successful relationships at Sonoma State. My family and I are excited to be Seawolves!"

Prior to OIT, Garsez was at the helm of the baseball program at the University of Antelope Valley for four seasons (2016-19).  At UAV, Garsez compiled a record of 156-65-1 to bring his career record to 276-133-1.  During his tenure, the Pioneers won the Cal Pac championship in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 while also capturing the Cal Pac Tournament title in 2018 and 2019.  In 2018, UAV advanced to the NAIA World Series, placing fifth.  Garsez also spent five seasons as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Corban University and was the head coach at Caldwell High School in Idaho in 2011.

"There is a great opportunity at Sonoma State to build the baseball program into a top contender." Garsez added. "I look forward to working alongside this group of assistant coaches and student-athletes to build a culture where players and coaches work relentlessly together to compete for championships; while earning success in the classroom."

The Sonoma State baseball program is coming off a 25-26 season in 2024, placing sixth in the CCAA and earning an appearance in the conference tournament.
