Women’s Golf Claims Top 10 Finish at Pioneer Shootout in Alameda

ALEMEDA, CALIF.- Sonoma State Women's Golf made a short drive over to Corica Park Golf Course in the east bay to partake in the 2025 Pioneer Shootout hosted by CCAA rival, Cal State East Bay. Behind team leader and senior Avery Foster the Seawolves secured a top 10 finish in a field featuring 20 teams and over 100 athletes.

As has been the case for much of the year, Avery Foster has paced her team and at the Pioneer Shootout it was no different. Across the two days of play she would take 14th place as an individual while constantly fighting for a spot in the top 10. Her first day on the course was marked by six birdies and another six holes on par as she finished the day one under par. On day two, she rallied in the back nine with six holes finished on par and was able to lock in on a top 15 finish for the tournament. Foster has gotten off to a strong start for the Spring season and will look to build upon this showing.

The next two Seawolves would finish within two strokes five places of each other. Freshman Rilee Crosby and senior Lauren Garcia both finished within the top 50 of contestants. Garcia put together a strong final four holes of golf in which she managed two birdies to climb three spots in the leaderboards. Crosby was consistent throughout the tournament highlighted by an eagle on hole 17 during day one and a strong front nine on day two where she shot on par for seven of the first nine. Crosby, fresh off a top 15 finish earlier this month, has shown the ability to produce despite being in her first year of collegiate golf.

Overall, it was a solid two days of golf for a team featuring three freshmen and three upperclassmen. This team has two top three finishes and a tournament win under their belt during the 2024-2025 season and will build upon it with the Fujikura Invitational just two weeks away.
