Lumberjacks Complete CCAA Sweep Of Seawolves

ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sixth-ranked Humboldt State rode the durable right arm of All-American hurler Lizzy Prescott to a pair of wins on Saturday to complete a four-game sweep of Sonoma State at Seawolf Field in Rohnert Park.  The 'Jacks (44-14, 21-7 CCAA) won 2-0 in game one and 7-3 in game two to strengthen their hold on first place in the CCAA.  The Seawolves fall to 16-32, 3-23 CCAA.

Prescott threw 27 of a possible 28 innings in the series for Humboldt State.  Removed after five innings with Humboldt up 6-1 in game two, she returned to record the last three outs when the Seawolves began to threaten in the bottom of the seventh.

Brittany Williams kept the Seawolves in game one with a solid pitching performance.  She allowed just eight hits and two runs over seven innings.  HSU picked up their first run in the third when Nikki Ketteringham followed a leadoff double by Caitin Klug with an RBI single.  The lead was doubled to 2-0 in the sixth on an RBI single by Francesca West.

In game two, the 'Jacks scored twice in the first inning when West and Chrissy Motzny delivered back-to-back RBIs.  After a run in the top of the third, SSU scored once in the bottom to make it 3-1.  HSU then scored two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to push the margin to 6-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Seawolves got a leadoff single from Caitlin Lavezzo and then an RBI triple from Kelsey Mohrman.  An RBI single by Nicole Cordova would follow later in the inning, but it was too little, too late for the home team.

The Seawolves will close out the 2008 season next weekend when they host Cal State Dominguez Hills in a four-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday.
