Keala Peterson had 13 kills on Friday night to help 16th-ranked Sonoma State cruise to a 3-0 victory over Cal State Stanislaus in CCAA volleyball action at the Wolves' Den. The Seawolves won by scores of 25-16, 25-19, and 25-16 to improve to 14-2, 6-2 CCAA. The Warriors drop to 6-9 0-7 CCAA.
The Seawolves blasted out of the gate in set one, steam rolling to an 18-3 lead before the Warriors got any rhythm going. By that time, it would be too late, though the Warriors did claw back somewhat, taking 13 of the final 20 points.
Set two was the closest of the match with the Seawolves clinging to just a two-point lead at 14-12 before reeling off three straight to make it 17-12. Stanislaus would get no closer than five points the rest of the way, which gave Sonoma a commanding two sets to none lead heading into intermission.
Like in set two, the Warriors were able to stay within striking distance for a good portion of set three, trailing 14-12 midway through. This time, however, the Seawolves rolled out an 8-0 run behind the serving of
Lindsay Brown to put the set, and the match, in the books.
Peterson's 13 kills came against no errors and in just 28 attempts for a .464 hitting percentage.
Ally Sather and
Rikki Buckshnis aided her efforts with nine kills apiece. Brown had 29 kills and
Taylor Krenwinkel led all players with 14 digs.
Lianne Vicchio paced the Warriors with 11 kills on the night. Nicki Brown, the younger sister of Sonoma's
Lindsay Brown, had 22 assists and Amanda Pielstick went for 13 digs.
The Seawolves return to the floor on Saturday night when they host Chico State.
