SEASIDE, Calif- Led by senior Samantha Mullins and junior Laurel Stricklin, the Sonoma State water polo team captured their first victory of the season Friday afternoon at the Otter Tank against Cal State Monterey Bay, 10-7. The Seawolves victory improves their record to 1-4, while the Otters drop to an identical 1-4.

After a contentious first quarter that saw Sonoma emerge with a 3-2 advantage, the Seawolves took control of the game in the second quarter thanks to a combined three goals by Mullins and Stricklin. Stricklin posted her first of three goals on the day at the 6:39 mark in the second period to give Sonoma a 4-3 lead. Mullins then netted two of her three goals on the day later in the quarter putting the Seawolves in front at halftime, 7-4.

In the fourth, Stricklin put the game out of reach when she notched her final goal to increase the Seawolf lead to 10-5. Goalie Lysa Lombard collected eight saves to push her team leading total to 26.

Offensively, the Otters were lead by the pair of Kellie Koorndyk and Mandy Enriquez who each posted two goals in a losing effort.
