Baseball Completes Four-Game Sweep Of Otters

Thomas Pope laced two doubles in Sunday's first game
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Despite cold and wet weather, the Sonoma State baseball team stayed hot with a doubleheader sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday afternoon at Seawolf Diamond in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves exploded for a 14-3 win in game one before shutting out the Otters 2-0 in the nightcap.  The wins lift the Seawolves to 5-0 on the season.  Cal State Monterey Bay drops to 1-4.

The Seawolves pounded out 15 hits in game one, though unlike Saturday, when they hit six home runs, they did it all without a longball.  Sonoma scored two runs in the first and third, four runs in the fourth and sixth, and single runs in the fifth and seventh.  There were only two innings in which they did not score.

Thomas Pope lined two doubles to left center to lead four Seawolves with multiple hits.  Max Kirk went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, Joe Slater was 2-for-3 with two runs, and Kris Haycock was 2-for-3 with a run.

Jonathan Flinn got the start and pitched four innings, allowing just two hits and striking out six.  Devon Kreyenhagen, Morgan Rodriguez, and Paul Oules closed out the game with Kreyenhagen credited with the win after two scoreless innings.

Steve Mays had two of the Otters' three hits in game one.  Starting pitcher Thomas Incaviglia was tagged with the loss after being touched up for eight runs in 3.2 innings.

Game two was much tighter as Sonoma's Cameron Ray and Monterey Bay's Patrick McClain locked up in a pitcher's duel.  After Pope and Stevens opened up the Seawolves' fourth inning with a single and a double, they were able to score on a wild pitch and subsequent throwing error by the Otter catcher.

The Sonoma offense was kept in check by McClain, who struck out ten batters while allowing eight hits in a complete-game seven inning effort.  Pope and Jacob Fiss had two hits each for Sonoma.

Five different Otters had a single hit against Ray and reliever Keith Thompson.  Ray was credited with the win after allowing just two hits in four innings of work.  Thompson nailed down the save with three shutout relief innings.

The Seawolves return to the diamond on Tuesday for a non-conference game at San Francisco State.
