Softball Takes Non-Conference Sweep Of Argos

Brittany Martinez knocked in five runs in game one
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State moved above the .500 mark on Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep of Notre Dame de Namur at Seawolf Field in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves won by scores of 11-3 and 2-0 to improve to 15-13 on the year.  The Argonauts drop to 7-15-1.

Game one was all Seawolves from the get-go as they rolled to four runs in the first inning.  Brittany Martinez delivered the most crucial blow with a bases loaded double that brought in three.  Brittany Williams would follow up with an RBI single that really put the game out of reach for all intents and purposes.

Sonoma would chalk up two more runs in the third on RBIs from Williams and Carli Feuerbach.  While NDNU would get three runs back in the fourth inning, the Seawolves would close the door with a four-run fourth of their own, highlighted by a two-run triple from Martinez.

Brittany Reynolds pitched well, allowing just four hits and no earned runs (three unearned runs came in), in five innings.  Martinez finished the game 2-for-2 with two runs and five RBIs.  Simone Brandalise was also 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

Game two was a much closer affair with the Seawolves held hitless until the sixth inning.  After Williams led off the frame with a single, she came around to score on a Janelle Arnold RBI single.  Jessica Abelia would follow her with a double to left to make it 2-0.

Two runs would be plenty of support for Williams, who was simply brilliant, scattering four hits in six innings of work.  She struck out four and didn't allow a walk.  Lindsay Emmel pitched the seventh inning to earn her fourth save of the season.

The Seawolves will hit the road this weekend to take on Cal State Stanislaus.
