ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State water polo team could not hold on to their halftime lead against Harvard Sunday afternoon, as the Crimson rallied back to victory over Sonoma, 8-7. The loss drops the Seawolves record to 6-10, while Harvard improves to 5-7 overall.
Things were looking bright for Sonoma State in the first half, as the Seawolves jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.
Andrea Brookbank netted her two goals in the quarter, and
Laurel Stricklin tallied her first of three goals in the game in the opening period as well.
Sonoma would increase their lead over the Crimson in the second, pushing the score to 6-3 heading into the second half. Stricklin,
Lauren Smith, and
Brooke Smith all chipped in with goals for the Seawolves in the second quarter.
Harvard turned up the defense in the second half, stymieing the Seawolf attack and holding them scoreless in the third quarter.
The Crimson also found their offense stroke, outscoring Sonoma 4-0 in the third to take their first lead of the game 7-6. Lizzie Abbott scored the go ahead goal for Harvard with 1:32 remaining in the quarter.
The Crimson added another insurance goal in the fourth, pushing their lead to 8-6 with 7:03 left in regulation.
