Water Polo Victorious On Senior Day Against UCSC

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State water polo team sent their seniors out in style Friday afternoon at the Dr. G Edward Rudloff Pool, as the Seawolves claimed victory over the visiting Banana Slugs, 13-9. Sonoma improves to 10-15 overall, and 8-6 in the WWPA, while UC Santa Cruz falls to 12-15 on the season and 2-5 in conference play.

Departing senior Samantha Mullins started things off for Sonoma in the first period, notching her first goal of the day 36 seconds into the contest to give the Seawolves the early advantage. Sonoma State would post three more goals in the quarter to give them a 4-2 lead after one period.

Both teams would go on to score two goals each in the second period, as Holly Armijo and Sarah Watt netted goals for Sonoma in the period.

Sonoma State would hold on for their tenth victory of the year, as the Seawolves outscored the Banana Slugs 7-5 in the second half to preserve the 13-9 win.

Leading the way for Sonoma was Sarah Watt and Laurel Stricklin, as both players accounted for six of the Seawolves 13 goals. Emily Pearce and Mullins chipped in two goals a piece and Lysa Lombard collected ten saves.

Up next for Sonoma State is a battle with Pacific on Apr. 14.
