POMONA, Calif- After missing the nearly four matches due to an injury, sophomore
Keala Peterson delivered a match-high 18 kills in her return, leading Sonoma State to a 3-1 victory over Cal Poly Pomona on Friday in Pomona. The win bumps the 15th-ranked Seawolves up to 13-1 on the season and 5-1 in CCAA play. The Broncos fall to 5-8, 2-4 CCAA.
The Seawolves and Broncos would trade the first two sets with Sonoma coming out on top in the first (26-24) and Pomona in the second (25-17). The Seawolves would then close out the match with 25-19 and 26-24 victories, earning their first victory in Pomona since the 2001 season.
Peterson led all players with 18 kills on 38 attempts. She hit .289 for the match. She was joined on the attack by freshman
Ally Sather, who posted 16 kills.
Lindsay Brown guided the offense with 36 assists and nine kills of her own. As a team, the Seawolves hit a scorching .311.
The Broncos got 15 kills from Elizabeth Diaz and 10 from Lindsey Poulos. Jasmine Davis had 35 digs.
Up next for the Seawolves is a Saturday battle with No. 2 Cal State San Bernardino. The undefeated Coyotes were the 2008 national runner-up.
