CHICO, Calif-  The Sonoma State women's basketball team got their 2010-11 season underway on Friday evening with a 56-49 victory over Hawaii Pacific, in Chico at the Coslet Classic.  Junior Jaclyn Bisordi led her squad with 13 points as the Seawolves won their opener for the fourth consecutive year.

Bisordi's big scoring night got off to an early start after she poured in the game's first basket, a three-pointer two and a half minutes in.  From there, the Seawolves and Sea Warriors played neck and neck for the next ten minutes, seeing six lead changes and four ties.

With the score knotted at 19, Amrallina Rowland knocked down a two to give the Seawolves a lead at the 5:43 mark...and they wouldn't trail again.

Sonoma pushed the lead to six at the half, 27-21, then to as many as nine early in the second, before HPU got going and kept things fairly close.  A 5-0 run midway through the half gave the Seawolves a double digit lead at 44-34 and they would enjoy a comfortable margin until the game's waning seconds when HPU was able to slice the lead to five on a three-pointer by Melody Ladrido.

Ladrido's trey with 14 seconds left was the Sea Warriors' last gasp, as Aly Henington drained a pair of free throws to put the game on ice.

Bisordi's 13 points came on 4-of-7 shooting from the field, including three three-pointers.  She also had five rebounds and three steals.  Henington finished her Sonoma State debut with 11 points and Rowland added nine.  Taylor Vigil took game-high honors with four assists while both she and Aly Conway snagged six rebounds.

The Sea Warriors were led by 14 points from Skye Savini and eight rebounds from Katelyn Urquhart.

Sonoma State shot 43.1% from the field and a solid 40.0% (6-for-15) from three-point territory.  They held Hawaii Pacific to 42.6% shooting and just a 16.7% (2-for-12) mark from long range.

Both teams showed some early season growing pains as they combined for 53 turnovers, 28 for Sonoma and 25 for HPU.

The Seawolves will go for a weekend sweep at the Coslet Classic on Saturday night when they take on the Academy of Art.  It would be the fourth straight year that the Seawolves have gone 2-0 to start the season in Chico.
