BAKERSFIELD, Calif- Taking on a pair of WWPA foes, the Seawolves were able to salvage the split on Sunday, defeating Chapman University 12-4 after dropping the first contest to No. 20 UC San Diego, 15-6. With the day two split, Sonoma State finished competition at the Roadrunner Invitational II with a 2-2 record, and now stands at 5-21 this season with a 3-8 WWPA mark.
In the first game, the Tritons jumped out to a huge 6-1 halftime lead that would later progress to 10-3 after the third quarter. Markayla Quane kept the Seawolves out of the cage and match until the outcome was already apparent.
Laurel Stricklin and
Lindsay Rangel finished with two goals each.
In the final bout of competition, Sonoma State's fate turned for the better as it was the Seawolves who went in to halftime with a large lead. Thanks to a monster second quarter, sparked by three
Holly Armijo goals, the Seawolves enjoyed an 8-2 lead at halftime that they would eventually ride out to a 12-4 victory.
Armijo finished with five goals for the Seawolves, as
Emily Pearce and Stricklin added three and two, respectively.
Gina Uliana provided four saves to finish with eight on the day.
Sonoma State will return to the water on Friday, April 9th when they head down to Seaside to take on Cal State Monterey Bay in a battle of two WWPA squads. First sprint is scheduled for 1:30 pm.
