MESA, Ariz- Despite improving their score from round one by eight strokes, the Sonoma State women's golf team ended Thursday's second round right where it started the day, in fourth place. The Seawolves stand 35 strokes out of first, but just six out of second as the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament arrived at the halfway point under sunny skies in Mesa, Arizona.
Nova Southeastern, the nation's top-ranked team and last year's national champion, appears to be well on its way to a second straight title. The Sharks shot a 285 to take a commanding 29 stroke lead on the field. Just like yesterday, Rollins (+44) and Tarleton State (+48) are just in front of the Seawolves (+50).
With four of five Seawolves improving from Wednesday's play, the squad was able to knock eight strokes off their first round score, shooting 305 after a 313.
Spencer Heller leads the Seawolves in 11th place at 77-76--153.
Brittany Carrera and
Tess Russell are tied for 18th after both have compiled identical 79-76--155 scores.
Chelsa Helget is in 30th at 78-79--157 and Tara Moritmeyer is in 47th at 84-77--161.
The Seawolves will hit the course early tomorrow for round three of four from Longbow Golf Course.
