Ally Sather had a team-high 12 kills and
Hayley Ross handed out a season-high 35 assists, but Cal State East Bay had a huge night at the net, blocking 10 Sonoma State attacks, including eight solo rejections, en route to a 3-1 victory over the Seawolves on Friday night at Pioneer Gym in Hayward. The Pioneers remain undefeated at 6-0 and 1-0 in the CCAA and the Seawolves fall to 3-2 overall (0-1 CCAA).
Despite hitting .310 in the opening set, 60 points more than Cal State East Bay, Sonoma State dropped the first set 25-23 before falling into a 2-0 hole with a 25-17 loss in the second set.
The Seawolves bounced back in the third with a 25-20 win to avoid the sweep, but the Pioneers put SSU away in the fourth, 25-19, as the Seawolves hit at a -.051 clip in the final set.
Kendahl Batiste and
Lindsay Lytle complemented Sather's 12 kills with nine of their own, as the three swingers accounted for 30 of Sonoma State's 42 kills.
Taylor Krenwinkel again led the Seawolves' back line with 20 digs.
Freshman Katie Allen led the Pioneers with eight kills while Roxanne Neely and Amanda Limeberger passed out 18 and 16 assists, respectively. Cal State East Bay's defensive specialist Lauren Massa recorded 16 digs in the victory, helping CSUEB remain perfect this season.
Sonoma State will travel to UC San Diego on Saturday to take on the Tritons at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
