Peterson Launches Seawolves Past Warriors In Three

TURLOCK, Calif- Keala Peterson torched Cal State Stanislaus' back line for 16 kills and a .452 hitting percentage and Brooke Moore added nine kills with a .533 clip to help Sonoma State sweep the Warriors (25-12, 25-15, 25-17) on Friday night at Fitzpatrick Arena in Turlock. The win moves the Seawolves to 14-3 overall and 11-1 in the CCAA while the Warriors fall to 8-10 (4-8 CCAA).

Peterson netted her most efficient night of the season, slamming 16 kills to the floor with just two errors in 31 swings. Moore also had a season-high night, connecting on nine kills with just a single error in 15 attacks. Ally Sather was on target as well, recording seven kills, which brings her just two kills shy of 1,000 for her career.

With the efforts of Peterson, Moore and Sather, the Seawolves hit .400 as a team, the third-best mark this season. Kelsey Hull chipped in with five kills and a .556 hitting percentage in nine swings and no errors.

Defensively, Sonoma State held Cal State Stanislaus to just .090 in the match (26 kills and 17 errors in 100 attacks), thanks to Taylor Krenwinkel (13 digs) and Lindsay Lytle (10 digs). Ashley Robinson came off the bench to reject three Warrior attacks, one of which was solo.

After hitting just .033 and .056 in the first two sets, Cal State Stanislaus finally broke a hundred in the third set, sporting a .176 clip. Lianne Vicchio led the hosts with eight kills while Jessica Lehner set the offense with 19 assists. Jaclyn Pinasco made 12 digs.

Cal State Stanislaus held its ground in the opening set, forcing five ties, including a 7-7 deadlock. However, it was all Sonoma State from then on, as the Seawolves rolled to a 18-5 run to close out the first set 25-12. The Seawolves never trailed the rest of the match, crusing to wins of 25-15 and 25-17 in the second and third frames, respectively, to earn their fourth straight victory and an unblemished 6-0 record on the road in 2011.

Sonoma State will now travel north to face Chico State on Saturday night, which first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Art Acker Gymnasium. The Wildcats are ranked at No. 23 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top 25 Poll. However, Chico State was upset by Humboldt State in five sets on Friday, falling to 14-4 overall and 9-3 in the CCAA, two games behind Sonoma State in the CCAA standings.
