BOX SCORE: #22 Sonoma State 3, Cal State Dominguez Hills 0
CARSON, Calif-
Keala Peterson became just the fifth player in Sonoma State volleyball history to reach 1,000 kills in her career, and in doing so, the Sonoma State volleyball team swept Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday night at the Torodome in Carson. The 22nd-ranked Seawolves rolled through the Toros by scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-22 to improve to 19-4, 16-2 CCAA, one night after seeing their eight-match win streak halted. CSUDH falls to 1-21, 0-18 CCAA.
Peterson needed just 14 kills on Saturday night against Cal State Dominguez Hills to reach the 1,000-kill mark...and she recorded exactly 14, hitting .412 with no errors in 34 swings. Peterson joins teammate
Ally Sather on the 1,000+ kills list -- Sather eclipsed that mark earlier this season and now has 1,064 career kills.
The Seawolves scored 10 of the final 12 points in set one to pull away in set one. Another big run midway through set two put the Seawolves up 2-0. The Toros would actually lead for most of set three, but a 9-3 run down the stretch secured the victory for Sonoma.
For the sixth time this season, the Seawolves would hit over .400, finishing at .404 (48 kills, 8 errors, 99 attempts). Peterson led the way with the aforementioned 14 kills while Sather and
Kelsey Hull had 11 kills apiece.
Hayley Ross pitched in with 26 assists and
Taylor Krenwinkel extended her all-time digs record with 18 more on Saturday night.
Elizabeth Krieger paced the Toros with 11 kills. Cal State Dominguez Hills hit .165 in the match.
The Seawolves will continue their current four-game road trip next weekend when they face UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino.
