BOX SCORE: #23 Sonoma State 3, San Francisco State 0

ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Keala Peterson, Kelsey Hull and Ally Sather combined for 34 of Sonoma State's 46 kills and Brooke Moore blocked six attacks, including two solo rejections, as the Seawolves swept away visiting San Francisco State in three sets (25-19, 25-20, 25-12) on Friday night at The Wolves' Den. SSU improves to 20-6 overall and 17-4 in the CCAA with one regular season match to play. The Gators fall to 14-12 (10-11 CCAA).

The first set proved to be the toughest for Sonoma State as San Francisco State forced 10 ties and five lead changes. In fact, the Gators took a 19-18 lead after a kill by Lauren Walsh, but the Seawolves went on a tear, scoring the next seven points to win the first set 25-19.

Both teams played toe-to-toe with each other for much of the second frame, although only four ties and one lead change occured. San Francisco State never trailed by more than three points until Sonoma State finally began to pull away late to eventually take the five-point win (25-20) to lead the match two sets to none.

The third and final frame was never in doubt. Sonoma State scored six straight points midway through the set to lead 17-6 before San Francisco State attempted a comeback, scoring four of the next five points to trail by eight points at 18-10. That's when the Seawolves took over, going on a 7-2 run to close out the set with a dominating 25-12 win, clinching the sweep.

The Seawolves hit .290 as a team, led by the 14 kills of Peterson (.387 hitting percentage) and 10 kills each by Hull and Sather, who both recorded 23 attacks, making three errors to compile a .304 hitting percentage. Moore had a huge night at the net, blocking a match-high six attacks while contributing on offense with five kills and four assists. Hayley Ross again handed out a match-high 37 assists and Taylor Krenwinkel made 16 digs to lead all defenders.

San Francisco State was led by the six kills of Walsh, followed by three other Gators with five kills apiece.

Sonoma State will play its final regular season match of the 2011 season on Saturday, when it plays host to Cal Poly Pomona at 7:00 p.m. in The Wolves' Den. It will also be Senior Night, as three Seawolves -- Keala Peterson, Taylor Krenwinkel and Lindsay Lytle -- will be playing in their final collegiate home match. They will be honored in a special pre-match ceremony.

Following Saturday's contest, the Seawolves will await word on their quest to qualify for the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship Tournament. Sonoma State was ranked fifth in last week's official NCAA West Region poll and will need to be one of the Top 8 teams in the region to return to postseason play for the fourth consecutive year.

The announcement will be made via a live broadcast on NCAA.com at 7:00 p.m. Sunday night.
