Women's Basketball Falls To Western Washington, 70-53

Tori Carroll scored a team-high 12 points and had eight rebounds after coming off the bench on Saturday in Seattle.
BOX SCORE SEATTLE- Tori Carroll came off the bench to record team-highs of 12 points and eight rebounds, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team was held to just 25.4 percent from the floor (18-71), falling to Western Washington, 70-53, on Saturday at the CCAA/GNAC Challenge, hosted by Seattle Pacific University.  The Seawolves fall to 2-4 this season while the Vikings rise to 5-3.

Carroll scored her 12 points on 4 of 10 shooting and 4 of 6 from the free throw line.  Travis Newman also scored in double-figures for Sonoma State, netting 10 on 3 of 8 from the floor, including 2 of 4 from three-point range. Aly Conway and Aly Henington chipped in with seven points apiece.

The Seawolves forced 22 Viking turnovers and scored 16 points on those miscues, while SSU gave up the ball 15 times.  However, the shooting efficiency was cause for the 17-point loss, as Sonoma State missed 53 shots on Saturday, hitting just 18 of 71, including 5 of 21 from long range.  Western Washington won the battle on the glass, outrebounding SSU 48-40, despite 21 offensive boards by the Seawolves.

Three players scored in double-figures for the Vikings, led by the game-high 20 points of Kristin Schramm. Katie Colard and Corinn Waltrip netted 12 and 11 points, respectively, as WWU connected on 27 of 57 shots from the floor (47.4 percent), including 9 of 19 from beyond the arc.

Western Washington jumped out to a large lead early, going up by 11 points at 14-3 just five minutes into the contest.  Sonoma State would chip away at the disadvantage and trailed by just six points (16-10) at the 13:06 mark, but the Vikings would extend their lead to 18 points at 33-15 with 5:19 left in the opening half, and again at 40-22, the halftime score.

The Vikings would continue to control the game and would grab their largest lead of the game at 22 points (66-44) with 2:32 left in the game and eventually wrapped up the 70-53 win.

Sonoma State will return home on Saturday (Dec. 17) to host Cal State Stanislaus at The Wolves' Den.  The Seawolves and Warriors will tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
