Seawolves Hold On For Victory Over Fresno Pacific

Linsday Rangel scored three goals in the split on Saturday.
FRESNO, Calif- After suffering a 13-2 loss to Cal Baptist in Fresno on Saturday, Sonoma State fought the setting sun and held on to defeat host Fresno Pacific, 11-9, to improve to 4-14 this season. It snapped a brief two-match skid for the Seawolves and they will host Cal State East Bay on Friday at the Dr. G. Edward Rudloff Pool at Sonoma State University.

In Saturday's first game, Cal Baptist held Sonoma State to just two goals in the opening half while jumping out to a 6-2 lead. The Lancers then kept the Seawolves off the scoreboard in the final 16 minutes of play and added seven more goals to win 13-2.

Sonoma State got scores from Lindsay Rangel and Monica Tasier while goalie Taylor Basso stopped seven Cal Baptist shots.

On Saturday afternoon, Sonoma State dominated Fresno Pacific for most of the match, leading 9-3 through the first three quarters of play. However, as the sun started to set and the glare on the water became tough for the Seawolf defense to see, the Sunbirds went on a run, scoring six fourth quarter goals. However, SSU got two insurance goals in the frame and it proved to be the difference.

Jessica Stansfield scored three goals for Sonoma State while Rangel added two. Basso made eight huge saves in the victory.
