Stansfield, Seawolves Defeat Roadrunners 7-6 In OT

HAYWARD, Calif- Jessica Stansfield scored three goals in regulation before netting the game winner in overtime to knock off Cal State Bakersfield for the second straight time this season. With the 7-6 victory, Sonoma State will face Colorado State on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. for fifth place in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) Championship Tournament in Hayward.

Stansfield scored two of the three Seawolf goals in the first half, as SSU took a 3-0 lead into the halftime break. Cal State Bakersfield eventually knotted the game at 4-4 late in the fourth quarter, but with 17 seconds left in regulation, Stansfield put Sonoma State up 5-4 which assumed to be the game winner. However, with six seconds left, the Roadrunners' Jessico Browning tied the match up again, sending it to overtime.

In the extra period, each team traded goals before Stansfield put Sonoma State ahead for good, netting a goal with 29 seconds left in the extra frame.

To complement Stansfield's four goals, Lindsay Rangel, Bridgette Souza and Malina Lorring also scored in the contest. Taylor Basso made 10 stops in the cage to help Sonoma State earn the victory.
