ROHNERT PARK, Calif.
--  Jason Walter led six Seawolves in double figures on Saturday night as Sonoma State held off a hard-charging Dominican squad 91-87 in overtime to close out the 2012 Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves got 20 from Walter and 14 apiece from Will Olsem, Patrick Scott, and Justin Herold, as they salvaged a split in their annual tournament and evened their overall mark at 1-1.  The Penguins, following their marathon triple overtime win over San Francisco State on Friday night, fall to 1-1 on the season as well.

Both teams had moments of brilliance in the first half, but neither was able to sustain their strong play long enough to build a real comfortable lead.  Tied at 28 at the 2:52 mark, the fifth tie of the first half, the Seawolves turned in the half's final surge, scoring the final seven points on a three-pointer from Will Olsem and four points from Michael Avery, a freshman making his first collegiate start.

Sonoma State would expand the lead to 11 early in the second half, taking a 41-30 lead on four straight converted free throws from Walter.  The Las Vegas native would connect on 11 of his 13 tries from the charity stripe on the night.

The Seawolves' lead got as big as 14 on three separate occasions spanning a five-minute section of the second half, the last coming at 66-52 with 5:04 to go.  However, from that point the pesky Penguins found their groove, first whittling the lead to four with a 10-0 run, then to within two at 73-71 with 28 seconds remaining.

The Penguins fouled with just 21 seconds left, but Walter was able to hit just one of two free throws to give Dominican a chance.  In an apparent bit of confusion about who would take the potential game-tying shot, Myles Carrillo took charge and sank a three-pointer from the left side that kissed the glass on its way down.  Sonoma had a chance to win it in regulation, but Walter's jumper at the buzzer fell short.

Sonoma State took charge early in the overtime period, going up on a layup by Walter, then seeing their lead expand on a three by Olsem.  The advantage got as big as six before Dominican had one last surge to cut the margin to two.  Walter, however, nailed a pair of free throws to ice the game.

Dominican's second half charge was engineered almost completely by freshman Christopher Schwartz-Edmisten.  After scoring no points in the first half, Schwartz-Edmisten tallied 26 in the second and six more in the overtime period to finish with a game-high 32.  His effort earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team.  Dominican also got 13 points from Ricky Wofford, 12 from Devin Golston, and 12 from Connor Haysbert.

Joining Walter, Olsem, Scott, and Herold in double digits were Steve Lackey (13) and Michael Avery (10).  Herold was a rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine boards.  He also had two blocked shots.

Will Olsem connected on three of his four three-point attempts to tie Andrew Kochevar's all-time record for threes.  Olsem's next long range bucket will be the 215th of his career.

The win improved Sonoma State's all-time record against Dominican to 17-1 in a series that dates back to 1986.

The Seawolves will take a near two week break from competition before continuing their five-game season opening homestand on November 30th when Cal State Monterey Bay comes to town.
