ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Scott Templeton and Jackson Stogner combined for seven of Sonoma State's 20 hits in game one and Jeff Johnson hit the game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning of game two, as the Seawolves completed the weekend sweep of Cal State East Bay with 12-7 and 6-5 wins on Saturday afternoon at Seawolf Diamond.  Sonoma moves above .500 at 8-6 overall and 6-2 in the CCAA, as the Pioneers fall to 5-8 and 0-4.

Game One: Sonoma State 12, Cal State East Bay 7 (box score)

It was an offensive showcase by both teams, but it was Sonoma State to bring the heat early, and often.  Despite two unearned runs scored by the Pioneers in the first inning, SSU starter Joshua Nervis was in control on the mound, allowing just three hits through his first five innings of work.

Meanwhile, the Seawolf offense exploded for three runs in the first, a run in the second and two runs in the third to take a 6-2 lead.  Steven Filippi, Johnson and Templeton all brought home runs during SSU's six-run output, while several other runs came home thanks to a couple of throwing errors by Pioneer infielders.

Leading 6-2 wasn't enough for John Goelz and company, as the Seawolves plated four more runs in the fifth, all thanks to timely hits, five of them to be exact, all of the single variety.

A 10-2 deficit didn't deter a Cal State East Bay comeback, however, as the Pioneers answered with four runs in their half of the sixth and another run in the seventh, but a Seawolf run, also in the sixth, kept CSUEB trailing by four at 11-7.  In the bottom of the eighth, Jeff Boulware gave SSU an insurance run, scoring Stogner on a single through the right side.  The 12-7 score eventually held up as Paul Anaya came on in relief for the final two innings to shut down the Pioneer lineup the rest of the way.

Nervis (1-2) earned his first victory of the season, despite giving up five hits and five runs (three earned), with three walks and six strikeouts.  Kyle Stahl and Mike Guglielmo also pitched in relief, keeping Cal State East Bay from getting close.

Stogner went 4 for 6 in the opener, adding an RBI and three runs scored. Filippi went 2 for 4 with three RBI's and three runs scored.  Templeton and Joel Thys added three hits and two runs each as the Seawolves recorded 20 hits for the first time since Apr. 24, 2010 in a wild 20-15 win at Cal State L.A.

Game Two: Sonoma State 6, Cal State East Bay 5 (box score)

The Pioneers struck first, plating a run in the fourth and a run in the fifth on SSU starter Harmen Sidhu to take the 3-0 lead.  The Seawolves countered back in the sixth with a pair of runs, thanks to a two-RBI single by Garrett Gooselaw, scoring Stogner and Justin Serrao.

Cal State East Bay pushed its lead back to two at 4-2 with a run in the seventh, but a Filippi RBI groundout scoring Evan Warner, who laced a one-out triple to center field, and a solo home run by Gooselaw knotted the game at 4-4.

In the top of the ninth after CSUEB's Jake Davis singled to lead off the inning, consequently chasing Ian Ocon from the game.  Guglielmo then loaded the bases full of Pioneers, before he forced Charlie Sherrer into a double play to put two outs on the visitors.  However, Tanner Laran delivered a go-ahead RBI single, putting Cal State East Bay up 5-4.

It was in its final at bat, though, that the never-say-die Sonoma State squad answered the call.  The Pioneers elected to insert reliever Zachary Wong, but Wong surrendered a walk to Templeton and a single to Boulware before a wild pitch scored Templeton to tie the game at 5-5, still with no outs and Boulware on second.  Garrett Schwartz came in to run for Boulware at second and, after a walk to pinch hitter Kevin Cramer, Felipe Carvajal got Serrao to foul out, but then walked Stogner to load the bases.  In the next at bat, Johnson hit a deep fly ball to right field and, on the out made by Sherrar, Schwartz tagged up and sprinted for home, sliding into home plate before the ensuing throw reached CSUEB catcher Kyle Zozaya, giving the Seawolves a thrilling 6-5, come from behind win to secure the series sweep.

Sonoma State got the victory, despite recording just six hits, in comparison to Cal State East Bay's 11 hits.  Gooselaw led the way, going 2 for 4 at the plate with the aforementioned solo home run in the eighth.  Joey Van Cleave (1-1) got the victory, as he came on to put an end to the Pioneer ninth inning.

Cal State East Bay's Wong was tagged with the loss, as he was responsible for the sixth and final SSU run to cross the plate.  Woolfe was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored in the loss for the Pioneers.

Sonoma State will return to action this upcoming weekend, hosting Cal State Dominguez Hils on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Seawolf Diamond.
