HAYWARD, Calif.
-- Shannon Kehr hit her sixth home run of the season in game one and Skylynn Myers blasted her third in game two, helping Sonoma State to a series sweep of Cal State East Bay with 8-2 and 7-0 victories on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field in Hayward.  With four wins this weekend, the Seawolves improve to 12-3 this season and 5-3 in the CCAA; the Pioneers fall below .500 at 9-11 (3-9 CCAA).

Game One: Sonoma State 8, Cal State East Bay 2 (box score)

After a relatively quiet first inning by both offenses, it was Sonoma State to break out the bats and score at will on Cal State East Bay.  Kehr got the Seawolves on the board with a solo home run to left center.  Ancia Purdy came up five batters later, with two outs, and doubled to right center, scoring Megan Konieczka from second.  In the next at bat, Danielle D'Eccliss lined a 2-2 pitch down the left field line to score Purdy and Samantha Beauchamp, putting Sonoma State up 4-0.  After D'Eccliss advanced to third on a passed ball, Vanessa Currie reached base on an error by Pioneer shortstop Jamie Yaller, which allowed D'Eccliss to score.  After a Myers single to right field, Kehr came back up again, delivering an RBI single down the right field line to score Currie and the Seawolves led 6-0.

Cal State East Bay got a run back in the third and another run in the fourth, but Sonoma State added a pair of runs in its half of the fourth on a two-RBI single to right field, plating D'Eccliss and Purdy, giving SSU the 8-2 lead.

From then on out, both teams were held scoreless, despite a combined seven batters left on base, six of which were in scoring position.  Ciara Becerril (4-2) came on in relief for Samantha Lipperd in the fourth, allowing four hits and one unearned run while striking out two.  Lipperd tossed the first three frames, scattering three hits and allowing another unearned run.  She walked three and struck out four.

Offensively, Purdy, Kehr and Beauchamp led the way with two hits apiece.  D'Eccliss, Currie and Kehr added two RBI's each in the victory.

The Pioneers' Talia Ferrari (2-3) was tagged with the loss, allowing 10 hits, eight runs (five earned), while striking out five as she went the distance.  CSUEB's Taylor Newmann went 3 for 4 and Yaller went 2 for 3.

Game Two:  Sonoma State 7, Cal State East Bay 0 (box score)

It became a pitcher's duel in game two between Lipperd and Kelly Lowe, until the Seawolves were able to break through with four runs in the top of the sixth inning.  Three of the four runs came on the three-run home run by Myers with Currie and D'Eccliss aboard.  Then, after Lowe retired the next two batter, Konieczka came up and blasted a solo shot, chasing Lowe from the game with Sonoma State up 4-0.

The Seawolves tacked on three more runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Myers, an RBI double by Kehr and an RBI single by Samantha Lepp to take the 7-0 lead, and the eventual victory.

Lipperd improved to 8-1 as the pitcher of record this season, allowing five hits and two walks, while striking out 11 batters.  Cal State East Bay's Lowe (3-2) was tagged with the loss.

Sonoma State returns home next weekend to host Humboldt State (7-7, 1-4 CCAA) in a four-game series with two doubleheaders on Friday (12:00 p.m.) and Saturday (11:00 a.m.) at the Seawolf Softball Field.
