ROHNERT PARK, Calif. —
Behind Justin Serrao's first career home run and a trio of Sonoma State batters with two hits each, the Seawolves earned a 5-3 victory over visiting Cal State Stanislaus before falling 8-1 in the nightcap on Saturday at Seawolf Diamond in Rohnert Park. The split leaves Sonoma two games under .500 overall (20-22), dropping to seventh place in the CCAA with an 18-16 mark in conference play.  The Warriors, meanwhile, move to 26-18 overall and 19-15 in the CCAA.

Game 1:  Sonoma State 5, Cal State Stanislaus 3

Serrao continued his hot streak and led the way for the Seawolves to a 5-3 win in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, knocking in three RBI's and scoring a run.  He has extended his current hit streak to a season-high five games.

Ian Ocon made the game one start for head coach John Goeltz and the Seawolves, throwing six well-pitched innings.  Ocon (1-3) earned his first win of the season, allowing only two runs on six hits.  Glen Wallace relieved Ocon in the seventh and worked the final three innings, giving up one run, en route to receiving the three-inning save, his second of the season.  For the Warriors, Rafael Vasquez got the start, tossing just three innings, allowing five runs on nine hits.  Vasquez was tagged with the loss, moving him to a 6-3 record.

Sonoma State scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning on one swing of the bat.  Serrao hit a big fly over the left field fence for the first of his college career, putting the Seawolves ahead, 3-0.  After both teams traded runs in the third inning to make the score 4-1, SSU picked up another run in the bottom of the fourth when Garrett Gooselaw hit his eighth home run of the season, giving Sonoma State a four-run lead at 5-1.

Cal State Stanislaus plated a run in the sixth inning on a DJ Arellano groundout that scored Craig Beevers from third to put the Warriors to within three runs, 5-2.  CSUS then threatened in the top of ninth, but could only manage to put one run across to make the score 5-3, giving Sonoma State the win.

Offensively for the Seawolves, all four RBI's came off of home runs.  Gooselaw scored two runs, in addition to his solo shot.  Steven Filippi and Jeff Boulware also scored runs for SSU in the victory.  Ross Gonsalves, Justin Manci, and Arellano each had an RBI while Gonsalves, Beevers, and Michael Turay scored a run each for Cal State Stanislaus

Game 2: Cal State Stanislaus 8, Sonoma State 1

After losing in game one, Cal State Stanislaus came back with a vengeance in game two, putting up eight runs against Sonoma State, to take the win, 8-1, and split the twillbill.

Joshua Nervis got the start for the Seawolves, pitching six innings, surrendering five runs on eight hits and striking out six batters; he fell to 3-4 as the pitcher of record this season.  Chris Short (3-1) started on the mound for the Warriors, tossing seven and two-thirds innings, allowing just one run on six hits, striking out six.  Anthony Gotelli came on in relief mid-way through the seventh inning and was credited with his third save of 2012.

The Warriors got on the board early, scoring a run in the first, second and fourth innings, to take a 3-0 lead early.  After a scoreless fifth inning, CSUS put two more runs on the board to take a 5-0 lead.  After back-to-back walks issued by Nervis, Gonsalves hit a two-RBI double, scoring Turay and Eli Davis.  It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth inning that Sonoma State got their first run, an RBI single by Kevin Cramer that scored Serrao.

With a four-run lead at 5-1, Cal State Stanislaus put it away, scoring three more runs in the top of the ninth inning.  A fielding error by the shortstop Serrao allowed Gonsalves to reach base to lead off the inning.  He eventually came around to score on a Jordan Long single.  Joe Medeiros hit a double to deep center field to score Long and Manci for the second and third runs of the inning to put the Warriors up 8-1.

Cramer recorded the only RBI for Sonoma State in game two, however, eight different SSU players had a hit.  The Warriors offense was just the opposite as Davis, Gonsalves, and Medeiros each had two RBI's in the victory.  Gonsalves and Medeiros each scored two runs, as well.

Sonoma State and Cal State Stanislaus will relocate to Turlock on Sunday to wrap the four-game series.  The doubleheader is set for 12:00 p.m.  Following this series, the Seawolves will then return home on May 4-6 to finish the 2012 regular season with a four-game tilt with visiting Cal State Monterey Bay.
