BOX SCORE Sonoma State 3, Dominican 0 -- Box Score
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- The Sonoma State volleyball team might have come out a little sluggish in the early going on Friday afternoon against Dominican. However, by the end of the match, the 23rd-ranked Seawolves were firing on all cylinders, slugging their way to a .619 hitting percentage in the third set on their way to a 25-19, 25-21, 25-10 win over the Penguins. The victory ups the Seawolves' record to 4-1 on the season while Penguins drop to 1-4.
While Sonoma State hit a high clip throughout the match (.412), they were a bit sloppy on serves in sets one and two, giving the Penguins eight points on service errors. Dominican would hang close, especially in set two where they actually led 21-17 before Sonoma reeled off eight straight.
Set three, however, was all Sonoma State as they charged out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back. The 25-10 victory was the largest for the team since a 25-8 drubbing of Cal State East Bay on October 21, 2011.
Stellar hitting lines could be found up and down the box score for Sonoma State on Friday afternoon. Leading the way with nine kills were
Ally Sather (9-3-18) and
Kelsey Hull (9-1-14).
Devynne Johnson was sensational as well, hitting .779 (7-0-9). As a team, the Seawolves had 46 kills to just 13 errors in 80 attempts.
Samantha Rains led the way with eight kills for Dominican.
The Seawolves have now won six straight against the Penguins dating back to 2001.
Up next for the Seawolves is a rematch with Seattle Pacific. The Seawolves swept the Falcons in the 2012 season opener, last week in Hawaii.
