ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Sonoma State cruised to victories in the first two sets, then held off a Central Washington rally to defeat the Wildcats in four, 25-16, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22, at the Seawolf Spike in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves hit .304 as a team and blocked a season-high 13 attacks as they improve to 6-1 with one game to go on their weekend docket. After sweeping Friday's action, the Wildcats dropped both of their matches on Saturday, to fall to 5-3 on the season.
The Seawolves hit .467 and .444 in the first two sets on their way to comfortable wins. In the third set, the Wildcats took an early lead and never let go, holding off a Seawolf rally midway through. The fourth saw Central Washington get out to a 7-5 lead, only to see the Seawolves real off 10-4 spurt to grab control.
Caylie Seitz was the Seawolves' most prolific hitter, posting 14 kills and 12 errors in 34 attempts. The trio of
Madelyn Densberger,
Ally Sather, and
Kelsey Hull combined for a very efficient line of 34-6-80. Each had just two hitting errors in the contest.
Nicole Gragnola was solid on the defensive side of the net, accumulating 20 digs. Leading Sonoma's block party were Densberger (4), Seitz (4), and
Brooke Moore (4).
Hayley Ross (26) and
Devin Shaver (24) shared setting duties.
Central Washington got 12 kills from Emmy Dolan and 11 from Erin Smith. Catie Fry had a game-high 31 assists.
